‘Vidya’ is that which teaches the knowledge of self-realization (atma tattva). The term ‘Vid’ means Jnana (knowledge). This knowledge has no connection with worldly knowledge and learning. Illusion (Maya) is ignorance (avidya). This entire worldly knowledge (loukika vidya) is part of avidya.

There are 64 worldly arts (kalas) and likewise another 64 non- worldly arts. These 128 kalas are Her forms.

403. Mahā-kāmeśa-nayana-kumudahlāda-kaumudī

Meaning – Just as the kumuda (water lily that flowers purely at night) joyously flowers when caressed by the moon rays, Mahā Kameśa flowers in Her divine company. She is pleasing to the eye (nayana) of Mahā Kameśa (Shiva).

On the surface level, this name signifies the importance of need for unity and love between the partners in the marriage.

At the deeper level, every aspirant, be it a man or a woman, is MahaKamesha. Her sight is very pleasing and cooling to the mind of the devout aspirant.

Ku means earth; Kumuda means ‘that which causes joy to Mother Earth’. Goddess Lakshmi has manifested in the form of Mother Earth. Mother earth is pleased when a human being who offers service to others and is helpful to the society is born. Presence of spiritual aspirants (sadhakas) and those who are on the righteous path brings to Her great happiness. They are gems who bring glory to Mother Earth. The simile of the water lily and moon rays explains this joy.

Nayana also means ‘to take’. She takes such sadhakas to their goal i.e. to the Lord. Only energy (shakti) can take the person towards God. Without energy, nothing is possible.

404. Bhakta-hārda-tamo-bheda-bhānumad-bhānu-santatiḥ

Meaning – She is the Sun (Bhanu) within the heart of the devotee whose incessant rays (bhanumat) dispel and destroy the ignorance (tamas).

Tamas is utter darkness; a state of complete delusion and ignorance. Every time ignorance raises its head, one of Her rays strikes and destroys it. Even when the body is bed ridden, the heart continues to attract tamasic thoughts and traits.

Regular worship and devotion are intertwined and as a result of this She seats herself in the heart of the devotee. Recitation of the name of God thus is the powerful weapon that protects. It is said that merely endless recitation of the divine names (nama japa) will grant liberation to the person in Kali Yuga.

With this the Prabha vidya is complete.
