511. Bandhinyādi-samanvitā

Meaning – Bandini and other divine energies (Maha shaktis) accompany the Goddess Kakini at Swadhishthana chakra.

The 6 deities who exist here are Bandini, Bhadrakāli, Mahāmāya, Yashaswini, Raktā and Lamboshtika.

512. Dadhyannāsakta-hṛdayā

Meaning – Curd rice is very dear to Her.

Recipe for curd rice- Mix required quantity of yoghurt (curd) in cooked rice. To this, add seasoning of mustard, fresh ginger, fresh pepper (not dry black pepper), a little coriander or curry leaves.

Curd rice thus prepared should be offered to Her as naivedya during the day and consumed thereafter as prasadam.

Meaning – Watching the rising sun, inhaling the smoke in the crematorium and consuming curd rice (yoghurt) at night lead to a gradual deterioration in health and decrease life span of the individual. Watching the setting sun, inhaling the homa smoke and consuming milk rice at night result in better health and increased life span.

Standing in front of the rising sun for long time is unhealthy. It increases the pitta in the body thereby causing diseases. A person should face the rising sun only for as long as it is essential to perform Surya-namaskara exercises. According to Ayurveda, curd rice should mandatorily be eaten every day however only during the morning hours and should never be consumed at night.

513. Kākinī-rūpa-dhariṇī

Meaning – At the Swadhisthana chakra, the Supreme Mother takes on the name Kākinī.

The names 514 to 520 describe Goddess Sakini, who is seated in the Muladhāra Chakra.

514. Mūlādhārambujā-rūḍhāa

Meaning – She is seated majestically over the lotus called Muladhāra Chakra.

Muladhāra, the base centre, is the seat of Lord Ganapati. By controlling the ganas (troops) here She is performing the tasks of Ganapati.

515. Pañca-vaktrā

Meaning – At the Muladhāra, the Supreme Mother takes on 5 faces. This is the Pancha Brahma or Pancha rudra form.

516. Asthi-saṁsthitā

Meaning – The garland of bones adores Her neck.

This emphasizes that She blesses every being with healthy bones. The spine is the most important bone in the human system.

At this point She takes on the form of Rāhu (Rāhu Swaroopini). It is said that Rāhu and Ketu reside in the Mooladhara (the base chakra). The planet Rāhu has a close connection to the bones within the body. For bone related problems, oil lamp is lit during the rahu kaalam. There exists a great ancient science of mapping the nine planets (Navagrahas) with the six spiritual centres within the body.

517. Aṅkuśādi-praharaṇā

Meaning – At this chakra, She holds in Her hands the weapons- ankusha (goad), kamala (lotus), pustaka (book) and Jnana Mudra (mudra depicting knowledge).

518. Varadādi-niṣevitā

Meaning – Varadā, Shrīhī, Shadā and Saraswati are Her 4 names. She resides within the Mooladharā Chakra in all these forms.

At Mooladhāra She is extolled as Saraswati. This is because the being needs to root out the immobility and stiffness (jadatvam) that exists within him/her and decide to move upwards on the spiritual journey. Developing this desire is the first step in this journey. Even to develop such a desire exclusive grace of Goddess Saraswati is essential. Hence at the very first point in the spiritual journey (Mooladhaara Chakra) She is worshipped.

Maharishi Agastya in his hymn praises Saraswati as-

Yā kundendu tushāra hāra-dhavalā, yā shubhra-vastra’avritā
Yā veena-vara-danda-manditakara, yā shweta padma’asana
Yā brahma’achyuta shankara prabhritibhir devai-sadā vanditā

This is a very sacred hymn. In addition to Saraswati, Hayagreeva swamy, Dattatreya and Ganapati bless the person with knowledge.

519. Mudgaudanāsakta-cittā

Meaning – The Divine Mother seated at the Mooladhāra chakra should be offered Mudganna as this is dear to Her.

Mudganna is also known as Ven-pongal. Cook rice together with a little green gram and pinch of turmeric. To this add salt. Season it with pepper, ginger, ghee and cumin seeds (jeera).

Mudganna should be consumed in very limited quantities. Eating excessively heats up the body while eating in limited quantities cools the body. The pepper in it drives away lethargy in the mind. This is a very healthy morning food for children.

520. Sākinyambā-svarupiṇī

Meaning – At Mooladhara Chakra, the Divine Mother is seated as Sākini Devi.

‘Sa’ is Her seed letter and She is also known as Goddess Siddha-vidya (refer nama 472).

This chakra corresponds to the fifth month of pregnancy. The backbone (spine) begins to develop in the foetus. Thus this month is most crucial for the development of the foetus. The face, nose, eyes and ears are formed in this period and are now clearly visible. In these modern days, the expecting mother is advised to undergo an ultrasound test (scan) so as to measure the growth of the foetus. The Supreme Mother seated within the womb of the physical mother is guarding the foetus at every step of its growth.

The dhyana shloka for Saakini devi is-

Mooladhaarasta padme shruti dala lasite pancha vaktraam trinetraam
Dhoomraabhaam asti samsthaam sruni mapi kamalam pustakam Jnana mudraam
Bhibraanaam baahu dandai sulalita varadaam poorva shaktyaa vrutaantaam
Mudgannaam sakta chittaam madhu mada muditaam Saakini bhaavayaamaha.

In this manner the life energy (prana shakti) of the being (foetus) descends via the Vishuddha chakra to the Mooladhāra and remains seated there. For his spiritual growth, the being has to consciously put in efforts and travel the distance from Mooladhāra to Ajna chakra.

The names 521 to 527 describe the Divine Mother who is seated in the Ajna Chakra as Hākini Devi.
