‘Anahata chakra’ is located near the heart and is below the Vishuddha chakra. ‘Anahata’ refers to the inner sound that originates on its own without any friction. The yogi who reaches the stage of Anahata begins to hear these sounds. It is the sound of creation (the primordial sound).

The deity of this chakra is Vāmadevi (refer nama 469). As She vomits the entire creation that has so far been retained in her womb, She is Vāmadevi.

Let us understand the meaning contained in the 3 stanza of Soundarya Lahari-

Avidyanam antas-timira-mihira-dweeppa-nagari

Jadanam chaitanya-stabaka-makaranda-sruti jhari

Daridranam cinta-mani-gunanika janma-jaladhau

Nimadhanam damshtra mura-ripu-varahasya bhavati.

Meaning – O Divine Mother! The dust under your feet washes away all darkness from the mind of the ignorant. They are the heaps of Chintamani (wish fulfilling) gems that are showered on the poorest of men. Just as Lord Varaha’s tusks brought up the earth at the time when it was sinking, your holy feet pull up those who are drowned in this ocean called samsara.

Thus the Supreme Mother Vārāhi using Her tusks pulls up the ignorant devotee and pushes him towards supreme knowledge.

Aksha-māla could be garland of Rudraksha, a garland of crystals (Sphatika), a garland of Basil leaves (Tulasi māla), Rosary (japa māla) or a bhadraaksha māla.

The Sanskrit word ‘aksha’ means ‘eye’. Here eye refers to chakra. It means that She should be visualized as shining resplendently at the Anahata chakra holding the weapons- the shoola (a sharp pointed instrument), discus (chakra), drum (damaru) and lotus (padma) in Her 4 hands.
