If we chant this eka shloki Ramayana everyday – in the morning and before going to bed, it will remove all our difficulties.
What are difficulties. What is samsara? Many think it is children, house, courts, surgeries, weddings, fights etc. That is not it. Difficulties we think are disease, grief, envy, jealousy, losses etc. Neither is that samsara, nor are those difficulties. Samsara is the cycle of birth and death. We are constantly mired in the wheel of samsara. We pray to God to relieve us from this cycle.
What is the ocean of samsara? This ocean is so expansive…we are taking so many births, starting with aquatic beings to terrestrial beings, to avian beings, human life is stuck in the likes/dislikes and is repeatedly taking births. This is the saagara or ocean. We pray to God to help us transcend this ocean. What we inflict on ourselves – our karma – we have no right to even ask for transcendence, because we have limitlessly strived for only material comforts. We have to experience the result. We should not blame god.
What relates to God is past life karma, births, deaths, this repeated cycle etc. Not having devotoin to God, doubts, problems, doubts on God, Guru, Upanishads, Puranas are all the difficulties. We should pray for relief from these difficulties, not from others such as – I am not married, I have no children etc. These are your karmic problems you brought on yourself, you must experience. If you eat to your fill and then complain of stomach pain, you have to expeirnece it. What you have done for our pleasure, you must pay for. Some fight for justice over unjust wealth distribution. If you want justice, you may have to fight all life long in courts. Why not let it go? You have parents who have not equitably distributed wealth, do not blame God for it.
God always doles out justice, never injustice. God is always fair. Whatever events happen in our life are all just and per the right calculations, not per our calculations. God’s sankalpa alone wins, not man’s. Then, what should we do? We should adjust and keep moving. For instance, if it gets very cold, we complain, if we gets very hot, very rainy, very windy, we complain. We must adjust. You may be in big jobs, they may transfer you to some far away place like Kashmir, but if you refuse, you may lose the job. You have no choice. You may struggle for two months due to cold, but you’ll be okay after. So, you must experience the fruit of whatever you are seeking and striving for. You eat 30 mirchi bajjis and then don’t want tummy ache.
Why did you eat so many? Of course you will have burns all over the body as well as the gateways in the body. Who asked you to eat so much? You do not remember God when you eat? We make the mistake and then we blame God for the results. That is wrong. We are transgressing the limits. We should act within limits. Even with respect to earning money, you must stay within limits. Many keep hoarding money, unwilling to give to charity, earning more than their wages through unfair means and finally, the goverment takes the money away. Instead, if you give to charity, how nice that would be! I tell my devotees not to accept bribes. Many officers come to see Swamiji, they do not give a penny to charity.
There is good Annadana happening here. You can take membership here for Annadana and food will be shared in your name. You must surrender yourself and pray to God. You eat more on Ekdashi out of concern that you cannot eat rice. Fasting is very good for health. All the bad bacteria in the body die when we fast. Ekadashi and Jagarana (night vigil) are very good for the body. We stay up all night for binge watching, but that’s not jagarana. Many watch mulitple movies in the night on shivaratri to keep awake, that is not jagarana. Keeping the senses awake is jagarana. You drink 16 cups of tea, watch movies and then cursorily chant Om Namaha Shivaya. On Shivaratri, you must sit near Shiva, do pradakshina to Shiva, chant his name and only meditate on his nature. So too when there’s Vaikuntha Ekadashi, you must pray to the Lord Venkataramana.
It was in Treta Yuga that the Lord’s incarnation started, not in Kaliyuga. He is hailed as Kaliyuga Varada – to indicate that he grants mukti to the people of Kaliyuga. We are so fortunate that we have the lord consecrated here. So, you can come and have Darshana, surrender yourself and support Anananda and show your devotion here. The more you are devoted and faithful, the more benediction Swamiji will look at you with.
Annadana doesn’t mean there has to be a feast. Just one serving of a single dish is good enough. You must make sure Annadana happens here everyday, it will do good to all your towns and this kshetra. I trust that you will have this in place before Gita Jayanti next year. Next year, Gita Jayanti happens on Vaikuntha Ekadashi, so I cannot visit here. You must have Fixed Deposit for Annadana. Lord Venkataramana likes Annadana very much.
If you do one Annandana to one person, you will have food for 7 lives. You will never go to bed hungry, you will get food somehow. Annandana is greatly extolled in our scriptures, I do not have time to narrate.
Tomorrow, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, the Uttara Dwara – the northern door – will be opened. Those who do the Darshan of that door will attain jeevan mukti and jnana siddhi. WE need jnana siddhi, without jnana, no beauty, no wealth has any meaning. We must gain jnana. That Jnana will take us on the highest path. It is not enough to just keep eating. Gain Jnana, practice concentration. Sit for 10 minutes and think of Rama, or think of Venkataramanay Swamy. Do meditation for 10 minutes. You do not do it, I don’t know why. If you do, your breath will be good. You can do Dhyana for 10-40 minutes on your favorite deity.
Do not be distracted by phones or people in between. Put everything away. Do Dhyana for 15-40 minutes. Your mind and diseases will be healed. Your sankalpas will find fulfillment. God will surely fulfill our wishes if our mind is pure.
In Mahabharata is a story: A wife and husband, and their children subsisted on Uncha Vritti – eating only the grains fallen on the ground. One day, to test them, Indra went in the guise of a Brahmin. The family had made picked some ragi millets and made four rotis, one for each family member. Vishnu said he did not have devotees like them anywhere else. Indra wanted to see how great they were and came in the guise of a hungry Brahmin, begging for food. The family invited him inside, honored and worshiped him. He said he was very hungry and the man of the house offered his roti. The brahmin was still hungry and the wife gives her roti. The daughter then offers her roti and when the brahmin was hungry still the little son offers his roti too. The brahmin then satisfied washes his hands when the squirrel bathes in the water. Its body turns golden. The man then said he had nothing else to offer.
The brahmin then reveals his true form and takes them all with him to Vaikuntha on a golden chariot. The squirrel too was a gandharva who went along. The squirrel said it had bathed in the waters of the yajna that Dharmaraja did, but it did not gain the golden color then, but this annadana gave the squirrel the golden color.
That is how great Annadana is. Every bit of food has the name of the eater on it. Food should not be disrespected or looked down on. Vendors serve panipuri with dirty hands and college girls love this dish very much. The food in our kitchen is far better than panipuri.
Annandana must happen in our kshetra. Swami has this sankalpa. Its greatness cannot be explained in words.
In Ayodhya, the name of Rama reverberated all over. 1300 people came by train with Swamiji. About 5-6k people gathered there. It was very cold there, but everyone tolerated the cold for Swamiji. We had wonderful programs there. We established a small Ashrama there. Everyone may go and have Darshan of Ayodhya and our Ashrama there. You go to weddings everywhere, but you must go on pilgrimages.
In your lifetime, the Ram temple has come about. You must go see it. The temple is so beautiful, it would be very nice if you came when Swamiji is there. You must surrender yourself and pray to God.
